About:

Julian Blohmke is an experienced sustainability strategist, currently serving as Director – Sustainability Advisory at LBBW, one of Germany’s leading financial institutions. In this role, he works at the forefront of climate strategy, biodiversity integration, and innovative nature finance solutions for major corporations across industries. Julian’s mission is to embed nature-positive action, carbon dioxide removal, and resilient resource management into corporate transition pathways — aligning climate targets with long-term value creation.

A trained economist with a PhD from Maastricht University and further credentials in sustainable finance from the University of Oxford’s Smith School, Julian’s professional journey bridges sectors and disciplines. His career path includes pivotal roles at Deloitte’s Climate Change & Sustainability Services practice, where he helped shape net-zero strategies and contributed as an observer to the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). Earlier, Julian supported circular economy models in the bioeconomy space and drove innovative energy transition projects with the Desertec Industrial Initiative in the MENA region.

In addition to his corporate advisory work, Julian lends his expertise to Germany’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Council, contributing to biodiversity-focused working groups that help align national policy and finance with planetary boundaries.

Passionate about connecting ecosystems thinking with strategic finance, Julian believes that nature must become an integral part of the balance sheet — because there is no growth on a dead planet. His thought leadership and active participation in landmark reports, such as the recent analysis of investment needs and support mechanisms for scaling CDR in Germany and Europe, demonstrate his commitment to accelerating systemic solutions at scale.

🌿 “Nature is prepared to evolve — are we?”
